Operations Management and Strategy Consultant

Pivotal Insight is looking to hire a full-time Operations Management and Strategy Consultant in our NYC office.

We are looking for someone with analytical aptitude, midlevel (5-7+ years) consulting experience, attention to detail, and who thrives in a fast paced and VUCA environment (volatile, uncertain, complex, and sometimes ambiguous).

In general, the Operations Management and Strategy Consultant should have knowledge and skills in several areas: finance, accounting, management, strategic thinking, etc., and have proven record of utilization of this knowledge and skill set to formulate a course of action that will help the company, and our client agencies, overcome their problems and plan effectively for the future. The Operations Management and Strategy Consultant will spend time learning and absorbing relevant information about the agency as a whole and try to understand the drivers for success and determine where the obstacles to achieving success may lie. The endgame for a business consultant is to help management draft a plan for success and provide a road map that the company can implement to achieve the desired results.

The Operations Management and Strategy Consultant position will provide analytical management, assessment framework, business case analyses, policy review, analysis of alternatives, event planning, event design and program coordination, with and for a diversified portfolio of city, state and federal clients. The Operations Management and Strategy Consultant may also be asked to support special research and/or ‘deep dive’ projects and related work as required

This position requires a degree and or planned studies in any of the following areas: Organizational Operations, Organizational Mgmt., Transportation, Business, Political Science, MBA, MPA (Public Administration), Public Policy, Economics, etc. Secret Clearance or ability to obtain and maintain one is required.


Pivotal Insight is looking to hire a data analyst to work in our DC or New York City office. We are looking for a candidate who has statistical and analytical expertise who apply those skills to provide data-driven insights to our clients to help them make informed strategic decisions. We are seeking candidates who have experience and knowledge in any of the following areas: budget analysis at the federal, state, or municipal level, acquisitions and procurements, program evaluation, econometrics and forecasting.

Candidates should have exceptional attention to detail, experience interfacing with senior leaders and leading projects, and thrive in a fast paced and VUCA environment (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, and sometimes Ambiguous). Ultimately, we are seeking candidates who desire longer term growth and learning the business of Government Management Consulting across the agencies of Transportation, Defense, Health & Human Services, Veteran Affairs and Homeland Security; with a personal and professional desire to ensure BETTER (‘optimized’) GOVERNMENT across these agencies at the Federal, State and local levels.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Economics, Finance, Engineering

  • Programming experience in Python and/or R

  • Experience with machine learning (classification/clustering/regression), data mining, and optimization

  • Experience modeling financial, operational, and/or organization data

  • Knowledge of statistical/analysis best practices

  • Experience with SQL or other database query languages

  • Data visualization experience (Power BI and/or Tableau)

Functional Skills:

  • Ability to work independently (self-manage) and as part of a team

  • Experience leading projects and advanced task management/action management skills

  • Ability to think analytically about how to analyze a problem using data

  • Ability to use and interpret data to help clients make informed decisions

  • Ability to clearly communicate (verbal/written) findings and recommendations to senior and executive stakeholders

  • Ability to work in an agile, fast paced, VUCA environment

Preferred Skills:

  • Background experience in consulting (experience with governmental organizations and client interface is a plus)

  • Programming experience (C++, Java)

  • Master’s and/or Professional Degree (i.e., MA, MS)

  • Willingness and ability to gain a security clearance required (existing clearance a plus at SECRET level)
